Grandfather Mountain State Park

The Fall Break of 2017, although not very eventful, ended with a nice trip to Grandfather Mountain State Park, NC. This trip took about 3.5 hours from Clemson, SC. We stopped at a couple of small towns to enjoy the beauty of the state of North Carolina. I took a picture at one of the very small towns of a small house and a river flowing by it:

There was also a museum just beside this house and river. My friend Prakash and his wife Bindhya were happy to pose for me:

NC is just so beautiful! And it was also a beautiful day to be going out. It was sunny but at the same time, the heat was not as much- perfect weather! Well, moving on, the trip from this stop (I forgot the name of the town) was not a lot – probably 30-40 min. We decided to drive through the mountains on a road adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway so that we could get a better view of the colorful mountains.

After a slow, wonderful drive, we pulled up at the gate of the Grandfather Mountain State Park. We had to pay to get in – around 20$ a person.  On the way to the top of the mountain, we stopped to take some pictures. Once again, I had models with me so I could stand back and be the guy in the background who takes the pictures!

There is a small zoo one stop before the top of the mountain where the “Mile High Swinging Bridge” lies. We stopped to check out the zoo and click some more pictures:

After we were done with the zoo, we headed for the top of the mountain to get to the Mile High Swinging Bridge. As the name suggests, the bridge is a swinging bridge located a mile above sea level. To get there, you can park at a place in between the zoo and the mountaintop and hike to the top, or you can drive to the top. This is the view once you get to the top:

You can get on to the bridge and cross over to the other side where you get to be on the top of another hill and sit on the rocks and enjoy the view. I have some images from the other side:

On the way back to Clemson, we stopped at a small town called Little Switzerland, NC. You should stop and check this place out if you have a little bit of spare time. It is a very small town located off the Blue Ridge Parkway and is mainly known for the hotel named the Little Switzerland. We didn’t have a lot of time, so we couldn’t see a lot there but are planning to revisit. Maybe it will have a separate post of its own.

As always, I didn’t write a lot because I’m not good at it, but I’d be more than happy to answer any questions that you have (if I know the answer to them). Until the next time,

Cheers!
